When asked to attend the 2019 HDI Conference in Orlando, my initial reaction was, "I don't even know what that is"
... and I'm going to be honest, I still don't know what HDI stands for. (Okay, maybe that's a bit of hyperbole. I know it stands for Help Desk International.) But what I have learned since attending as part of the Atlassian team is that there is a significant need across all industries for tools like Jira Service Desk, Opsgenie and Confluence.
Imagine a place where 100's of ITSM (IT Service Management) providers come together to share ideas and solutions to the everyday pain points experienced by organizations both big and small. Sprinkle in some inspirational keynotes such as Ben Nemtin, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of What Do You Want To Do Before You Die? and the star of the MTV show "The Buried Life". And top it off with an appearance and closing ceremony by Robert Matthew Van Winkle, also known to Xennials and Millennials as THE Vanilla Ice.
Sidebar, I am now convinced that you can't have a successful conference without an appearance by Vanilla Ice...
While the HDI conference was a place where the exchange of experiences and ideas between users of ITSM frameworks happen, it was also a place where creative solutions were brought to light. Our Atlassian booth alone interacted with over 400 people that attended the conference, discussing a wide spectrum of topics including:
- how to solve for disconnected teams
- best ways to build a functional service desk
- better ways of managing outages
- and um why is Vanilla Ice here?
For me, the most exciting part of the conference was demoing the Atlassian offerings to attendees who were just looking for something better for their teams, showing off the full customization of Jira Service Desk and its ability to scale with their teams or sharing how Confluence fully integrates with Jira Service Desk in the form of a knowledge base. These were shining moments for me.
