Introducing Atlassian Rovo: Your New AI Teammate

Within the last couple of years, Atlassian has been unveiling new and exciting ways to use AI. At Atlassian Team ‘24 in Las Vegas, Atlassian recently announced their newest AI product: the virtual assistant and agent, Rovo. Rovo is an assistant designed to revolutionize how teams interact with their data. Rovo promises enhanced productivity and collaboration, with seamless integrations to many popular tools and systems used within an organization. At Isos, we recently got access to the beta version of Rovo and wanted to share some of our thoughts. 

What is Rovo?

Rovo is Atlassian’s version of a digital and efficiency-focused wingman designed to work with all of Atlassian’s best tools. Levering Atlassian’s experience with team dynamics and productivity, Rovo helps you quickly summarize a ton of information within your projects or spaces and then quickly makes key actions or updates based on that data. Using Atlassian’s “teamwork graph,” Rovo can contextualize all of its recommendations based on your organization’s data, making sure the recommendations are powerful and purposeful. 

Key Features of Rovo 

• Comprehensive Search: Rovo’s search abilities are designed to find and surface any information across all of your data sources. Whether in a Jira ticket, a Confluence page, or even a document from Google Drive, Rovo will provide that context to you to make actionable results. Imagine you ask one of the Rovo agents where the latest project files are stored when you are in that specific Jira project, and it gathers them together for you and summarizes them.
• Knowledge Cards: These cards provide quick snapshots of information, such as project status, team goals, and critical deadlines. As you feed more data into the “teamwork graph,” these cards become more insightful and helpful.
• Interactive Chat: Rovo Chat allows the team to ask questions and receive answers in a conversational interface. It's like having a knowledgeable colleague who knows everything (and isn’t obnoxious about it), can clarify topics, and demystify jargon.
• Specialized Agents: Rovo includes agents who can automate tasks, manage workflows, and even onboard new employees. Whether you need Rovo to clean up a backlog or draft a new design for requests, Rovo agents are designed to handle time-consuming tasks, freeing up your team’s time to focus on more strategic work. 

Why Rovo Matters

Rovo addresses a common pain point in many organizations: the difficulty of finding and utilizing information spread across various tools and platforms. Our Favorite Use of Rovo

One of Rovo’s key features is the ability to create specialized agents (as described in the previous section). One of the most remarkable ways to utilize these agents is by giving them custom prompts. A custom prompt can be particular, which can include specific instructions on how it outputs a response, which consists of the tone of the reaction & length of the reaction, as well as instructing it to follow a template. For example (see image on the left), one of the examples Atlassian uses in the training is to create a how-to-bot. The custom prompt for this how-to-bot includes specifications around tone and length, followed by instructions to follow a particular template. This use case can be extended to many other examples, such sas creating a bot to write a Post-Mortem or RCA, all using one or more Jira tickets as the basis.
