Truth be told, I'm not much of a betting gal. Vegas, horse races, March madness—yeah, not my thing. Even if I were a betting gal, it's not likely that I'd bet on some obscure tidbits about this trusty ol' bucket of issues that we call Jira, right? Right. Nonetheless, Quick Search in Jira is something that you may have been using for years, but had no clue how awesome it really is. So, let's see how you fare against this here dandy lil' list, because I bet you didn't know the following 5 facts:
It's Called Quick Search
There are three kinds of searches in Jira, the quick search, the basic search, and advanced search with JQL. The one at the top of the screen that you get to no matter what screen you're looking at—that one is the Quick Search.
You Can Search for All the Things, Not Just Issues
Both the Basic and JQL (advanced) searches will only get you results with a list of issues, that's it. The cool thing with Quick Search, however, is that you can search for boards, projects, queues (if you have Jira Service Desk), filters, and people.
Bonus! Quick, jump on over to search screens for Projects, Filters, People, etc.
You Can Get a Little Fancy and Use Some Simple Operands
For example, NOT, OR and AND. Yeah. Looks something like this in the Quick Search:
Be sure to use your all caps for NOT and OR, otherwise, this fanciness doesn't work.
The Same Quick Search Box is Also Used in the Basic Search
And yes, the same operands (NOT, OR, AND) can be used in the Basic Search.
If You Hit the / Key on Your Keyboard, it Activates Quick Search
Because who doesn't love a hotkey? Try it; your Jira life will never be quite the same again.
