We were thrilled when Atlassian announced that Atlassian Intelligence (AI) was in beta earlier this year. After all, who couldn’t use an AI teammate? Atlassian Intelligence uses a combination of Atlassian’s internal models and their collaboration with OpenAI to build it into the overall Atlassian platform.
Big news, the solution is now generally available! It’s already embedded in Premium and Enterprise Cloud solutions, so if you’re interested in trying it out, all you have to do is ask your administrator to turn it on.
(We do recommend that you check with your privacy and security teams first, though. And keep in mind that you shouldn’t turn it on if you have a BAA in place for HIPAA compliance.)
To use AI once it has been enabled, you just click the icon at the top of the page or type /ai somewhere on the page.
Here’s a short list of how some of Atlassian’s most popular solutions benefit from AI:
Jira Service Management (JSM)
In JSM, Atlassian Intelligence serves as a virtual agent.
- Save time getting up to speed on issues - Instead of reading through a lengthy issue description and all its associated comments, AI can summarize the highlights for you.
- Deflect issues - If you set up the JSM virtual agent for Slack app, when a customer asks a question, AI will search your linked knowledge bases for answers, so more issues can be deflected.
- Automate routine actions - AI can handle some simple requests like providing software access and resetting passwords, so you and your teams can focus on the more difficult tasks.
- Improve customer communications - AI can write customer communications for you, make instructions clearer, and change your tone to be more professional.
- Write knowledge base articles - Once an issue is successfully resolved, AI can use the information to write a new knowledge base article on it.
Jira Software
- Simplify filtering for issues - With AI, you can use natural language to filter for issues instead of JQL, even if the criteria are complex.
- Write user stories - You can ask AI to generate user stories with acceptance criteria, brainstorm edge cases to test the user story, and summarize your findings to share with other stakeholders.
- Summarize your updates - AI can summarize your updates or comments and find action items so nothing falls through the cracks.
- Improve the way you communicate - AI can change the tone of your descriptions, comments, and responses to make communication clearer.
Confluence
- Improve your writing - AI can write an article for you, add to an article you’re writing, change the tone of something you’ve already written, or generally improve it. You can even ask it to turn paragraphs into bullet points.
- Answer your questions - You can ask a question in the search bar (the types of things you’d normally ask a teammate) and AI will search your Confluence site for the answer.
- Summarize pages - You can ask it to write an executive summary, summarize a page in a single paragraph, list key takeaways, or even pull out action items from meeting notes.
- Define unfamiliar terms, acronyms, or abbreviations - If you come across a term or acronym you don’t recognize, AI can give you a definition.
- Create automation rules - You can describe a task you want to automate, provide a trigger and an action (if/then) and it will create the automation rule for you.
Atlassian Intelligence in Other Solutions
Atlassian Intelligence beta features can also be found in Atlas, Atlassian Analytics, Bitbucket, Jira Work Management, and Trello. You can learn more ways to use Atlassian Intelligence while working in these solutions in this article.
Privacy and Security
Atlassian is committed to transparency in everything they do, including their use of AI. The company’s values, privacy, and security standards, which you can read about at the Atlassian Trust Center, of course apply to Atlassian Intelligence.
