What’s under the Atlassian Intelligence hood?
Atlassian Intelligence combines state-of-the-art generative AI developed by OpenAI with large language models that understand how your teams work, and data in your Atlassian tools that provide additional context. As a result, Atlassian Intelligence is not only natively embedded in Atlassian solutions but also unique to you, your teams, and your workflows.
What can Atlassian Intelligence do?
Atlassian Intelligence works across a number of integrated Atlassian Cloud solutions, including Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Bitbucket, Trello, and Atlassian Analytics.
Atlassian functionality can help you:
- Work faster: Atlassian Intelligence can create and summarize content; polish rough drafts; summarize smart links; define terms, and in some cases, create automations.
- Get insights: Atlassian Intelligence can search issues, answers, and generate SQL queries.
- Keep things moving: Atlassian Intelligence can suggest request types, automate support interactions, and review code.
What are some examples of Atlassian Intelligence in action?
While Atlassian Intelligence has many practical applications, how you use it will be highly dependent on your organization's practices. Following is just a short list of some of its current capabilities.
- In Jira Service Management (JSM), Atlassian Intelligence serves as a virtual agent. It can summarize issue descriptions and search knowledge base articles to help deflect tickets. AI can handle some simple requests, like providing software access and resetting passwords, writing customer communications or clarifying instructions, and writing knowledge base articles.
- In Jira Software, Atlassian Intelligence makes it possible to use natural language to filter issues, instead of JQL. You can also use it to improve the way you communicate, whether that’s writing user stories, summarizing updates, or changing the tone of your descriptions, comments, and responses.
- In Confluence, Atlassian Intelligence can write articles for you or improve something you’ve already written; search articles for answers to your questions; summarize pages with key takeaways; define terms and acronyms; and create automation rules.
If you’re looking for more detailed information about Atlassian Intelligence’s capabilities, Atlassian breaks it down by product here. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the products you’re interested in.
Keep in mind that Atlassian is continuously advancing all its solutions and capabilities, so we expect to see more functionality being added. We’ll keep you up to date as changes are made!
What about privacy, trust, and security? How does Atlassian Intelligence use my data?
Trust is top of mind in everything Atlassian does, and AI is no exception. The Atlassian Privacy Policy and Customer Agreement extend to Atlassian Intelligence. At a high level, the data you submit and the responses you receive via Atlassian Intelligence are used only to serve your experience, not to serve other customers or to train OpenAI’s models or services. Further, you can still specify data residency for all in-scope product data.
In terms of security, the same security practices that apply to all of Atlassian’s other solutions apply to Atlassian Intelligence. You can read about them here.
If you’re looking for more specifics about Atlassian Intelligence privacy and trust and how your data is transmitted, used, and stored, a good place to start is the FAQ in the Atlassian Trust Center.
If you still have questions or want to really dig in deep and understand on a product-by-product basis exactly how Atlassian Intelligence uses your data to deliver answers, the Atlassian Intelligence Transparency Guide should be your next step.
