DSC09880Atlassian tools are incredibly powerful, that's a given! However, our customers often tell us they'd like their instances to look more like their corporate brand. It's a smart move that can really help with user adoption, and support a positive employee experience. This extra customization is not a core offering here at Isos Technology, but it is a small part of our Professional Services offering, and I thought you might be interested in learning more about it.
I've been at Isos for quite a while...I'm a brand/design/UX specialist in the Marketing department, and I support everything we do in marketing. I also get to spend time working with teams throughout our company on client projects, including figuring out how to get Atlassian tools looking and working their best from a front-end perspective.

Branding Your Instance, and a Whole Lot More

Sometimes the projects I work on are a matter of simple branding using the out-of-the-box customization features that Atlassian provides. This is always the best solution to ensure that you get the full experience of the tools without hindering any functionality. Other times, though, there's a need for a solution involving a theming App from the Atlassian Marketplace, such as Refined...and sometimes there's a requirement for something extra.

For example, I recently worked on a project involving a large technology company with numerous foundations under its umbrella. From an operational standpoint, they needed a single Jira Service Management portal, but from a UX standpoint, they wanted each foundation to have its own unique, branded experience.

Using the Refined App for JSM, I created a URL with a unique query string for each foundation, that determined which branded logos, imagery, and colors to load, as well as auto-selected an option from a custom field in the requests.

Side note: We had to build a custom app to help with a portion of the project that should be in the Marketplace sometime in the near future. Yes, our team can build Atlassian Apps, too!

Another project I worked on entailed building a mini Statuspage on the first page of a JSM portal. I call it the "Turducken" project, like the infamous Thanksgiving poultry extravaganza, because it's essentially Statuspage stuffed inside Refined, then stuffed inside JSM.

Those are just a couple of examples of the extra things I mentioned, but we do also help with more straightforward branding and other things that go along with the overall experience of your users.

Sometimes, it only takes some familiar minor aesthetics or custom functionality to help get users to see the value in Atlassian and start using it, which then helps them get to the real value of the investment, the work it enables.
